Paving technology by using graphite paving stones.

The main rule of correct pavement implementation is a preparation of base (foundation). Quality and long service life of covering; possible shrinkage and appearance of irregularities depend on abidance of the rule. Moreover, for paving a garden path, you can put 50 mm granite tiles just on a bed of sand, but for highways and paving height is 100mm and it requires more thorough ground preparation. All recommendations about preparing grounds for laying granite paving stones can be seen in the following picture. It is worth remembering that the ratio of "dry cement-sand" mixture is different and ranges from 1:10 to 1:4, depending on planned load: whether it will be a walking path or a road for vehicles. The amount of cement in the sand mixture should be increased at the sites of heavy braking loads: road turns, bus stops, enterings before garages, gas stations etc.

In addition to the regulations above, there are basic rules that must be strictly followed at preparation of road and pavement covering with natural stone:
1 - cross fall for rainwater in typesetting covering should be higher than in asphalt coatings (3-5 cm/m) and 5-10 cm at 1m of covering width. Underlayer is also prepared with a cross fall;
2 - European quality standards allow presence of irregularities on the outer surface of not more than 10mm on 4-meter stretch of typesetting covering. However, structure of outer part of the covering should also be strictly followed;
3 - read paragraph 7.27. SNIP 3.06.03-85 - "Paving with sledged stone and cobblestone should begin with boundary rows on both sides of the roadway. Laying the boundary rows should be made ahead of all paving at 0.7-1.0 m.The height of stone for laying boundary rows should be 4 cm greater than the average height of the stone, adopted for laying roadway pavement. (It is necessary to sort the stone before working.) If longitudinal grade is higher than 10% and transverse profile is single-ended it is necessary to conduct paving upward";
4 - see paragraph 7.31. "Paving stones need to be paved in rows perpendicular to road base line. The joints between paving stones need to be displaced at least one third the bar length. The width of the joints should be no more than 10mm."
5 - during the laying paving stones are recessed into the ground to no less than 30% of its height and the joints are filled with dry sand;
6 - curbstone is required;
7 - and the last necessary condition for durability of paving: ramming should be conducted only by mechanical tools. In modern construction different types of platform vibrators are used: plate vibrators with working weight of 130 kg and centrifugal force of 18-20 kN meet requirements of sealing paved coverings up to 6 cm in thickness; for sealing paving coverings up to 8-10 cm in thickness, 170-200 kg vibrating devices are used with the centrifugal force of at least 20-30 kN; for thicker coverings vibrating devices weighing 200-600 kg with centrifugal force from about 30 to 60 kN are used. Using plate vibrators is not only seals the covering to steady state but also smooths the surface, hiding the small errors made during laying paving stones.
After vibrocompaction the paved surface is ready to be used: it has to be sprinkled with sand which must remain on the surface for some time and it is recommended to fill all the joints.
